If you didn’t get a chance to hear Morning Edition classical music commentator Miles Hoffman today on NPR, follow the link below to hear a wonderful story about how an unlikely video sharing service can be used in educating our students:

As a musician and a teacher, Hoffman says his YouTube interest is also piqued from an educational standpoint.

“What I realize from talking to students all over the country is that there are so many great artists that they have not only never seen, but never even heard of. I think it would be a wonderful idea for educators all over the country to make lists of suggested YouTube links for their students, so that they can be exposed to great performances of great music.”

When I had the pleasure of attending a saxophone clinic by Tom Scott, he mentioned YouTube and the various clips of great saxophonists like Cannonball Adderley and John Coltrane. I’m always on the hunt for new ways to introduce jazz (and music in general) into the lives of my students. YouTube is for the most part already part of their native language.

    Nice post!
